Basketball Recap: Whale Branch Comes Up Short

Whale Branch lost against Battery Creek back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Whale Branch Warriors were beaten by the Battery Creek Dolphins 65-38. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 152nd, while the Dolphins are ranked 43rd).

Whale Branch's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kevin Jenkins, who posted ten points and eight boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Tony Broxton Jr, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 10 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Battery Creek to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tyrese Smith, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 12 points and six steals. Smith is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Ethan Cox was another key player, putting up 11 points and seven steals.

Whale Branch's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Battery Creek, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Whale Branch wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 68-33 victory against Hardeeville on the 10th. As for Battery Creek, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 76-44 win against Beaufort on the 10th.
