Baseball Recap: Monte Vista Christian Comes Up Short

Monte Vista Christian had taken Scotts Valley down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Saturday. Monte Vista Christian took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Scotts Valley. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Monte Vista Christian got a good showing from Aidan Miller, who tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Miller has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Tyson Shaw made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole four bases while going 2-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Mikie Melenudo was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Even though they lost, Monte Vista Christian hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in three consecutive matches.

Monte Vista Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Scotts Valley, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monte Vista Christian will face off against Pacific Grove at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be Monte Vista Christian's first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Scotts Valley, they will take on Harbor at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Harbor's pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so Scotts Valley's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
