League recap: Lordsburg bests Cobre in blowout

Lordsburg took down Cobre 42-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Adam Murillo threw for 161 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 42 yards in the win.

The Mavericks led 2A District 3 in scoring this week after putting up 42 points on the Indians. Murillo in the win.

JJ Escobar was the best wideout in the league this week as Lordsburg beat Cobre. Escobar racked up three receptions for 99 yards. Solomon Salinas helped Lordsburg's passing attack out by catching two balls for 41 yards.

Chase Carson was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 17 carries, he ran for 149 yards as Hatch Valley bested Jerry Martinez's team. Juan Caraza also contributed to the rushing game with 92 yards on the ground.

6-foot-1 quarterback Carson of the Bears is the league leader in passing yards this season with 880. He has also thrown 10 touchdowns. On the ground, the Mavericks' Wendell Hayes has rushed for 855 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Christian Jimenez. The Mesilla Valley Christian star has 19 catches for 500 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Lordsburg takes on Tularosa. As it stands, the Mavericks are in third, while the Wildcats are in first.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Lordsburg takes on Tularosa. The Mavericks have allowed 114 points this season, while Bryan Jones' team has given up 128. Lordsburg allowed 6 points last week as it defeated the Indians.

The Mavericks made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 11,901 from 12,944. The advance stemmed from a 42-6 victory over Cobre last week.
