Champaign Central strolled into their game on Saturday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They never let the Peoria Lions get on the board and left with a 21-0 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Maroons also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.
Maisie Bowers was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, Champaign Central got a massive performance out of Molly Kloeppel, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those three hits gave Kloeppel a new career-high. Kaitlyn Helm was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs.
Champaign Central's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-0. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Peoria, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.
Looking ahead, Champaign Central will venture away from home to challenge Mattoon at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Peoria, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Peoria Heights at 4:00 p.m. on the 22nd.
