The Bishop Snyder Cardinals will take on the St. Johns Country Day Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Bishop Snyder is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
Bishop Snyder will bounce into Thursday's matchup after beating Bradford, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Cardinals put the hurt on the Tornadoes with a sharp 12-4 victory on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.
Chloe Gotto and Caitlyn Boshell made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Gotto tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Boshell tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Gotto has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Gotto scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of her five plate appearances, while Boshell went 2-for-5 with three RBI and two doubles. That's the most doubles Boshell has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lola Aberly, who scored three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. What's more, she posted two hits, the most she's had since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Juliana Roldan, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Bishop Snyder always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bradford only posted an OBP of .371.
Meanwhile, St. Johns Country Day was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against Peniel Baptist Academy, falling 11-1.
St. Johns Country Day saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabi Oceguera, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
St. Johns Country Day's defeat dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Bishop Snyder, their win bumped their record up to 11-5.
St. Johns Country Day's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Bishop Snyder has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for St. Johns Country Day, though, as they've been averaging only 3.7 strikeouts. Will Bishop Snyder keep running through batters, or will the Spartans buck the trend?
