Baseball Recap: Galatia/Thompsonville Wins Going Away Against Crab Orchard

Galatia/Thompsonville never let their opponents score on Thursday. They blew past the Crab Orchard Trojans 11-0. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-0 on April 1st.

AJ Downing made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Connor Campbell, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season. Braxton Householder was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Galatia/Thompsonville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Crab Orchard only posted an OBP of .292.

The win made it two in a row for Galatia/Thompsonville and bumps their season record up to 11-6. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Crab Orchard, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-10.

Coming up, Galatia/Thompsonville will be playing in front of their home fans against Pope County at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Crab Orchard, they will head out on the road to challenge Massac County at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
