Ellis will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Trego extended their winning streak to four on Friday. The Golden Eagles came out on top against Wichita County by a score of 56-46. The Golden Eagles' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Trego to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jack Conness, who rushed for 142 yards and four TDs. Conness didn't just play on offense: he also made four total tackles and defended one pass. Ashton Wynn was another key player, rushing for 101 yards and a pair of scores.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Trego was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 284 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.
Another reason for the win was Trego's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Aaron Samson and Jared Aschenbrenner, who racked up all four sacks between them. Wynn got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Ellis, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They walked away with a 44-32 win over LaCrosse on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Railroaders in their matchups with the Leopards: they've now won three in a row.
Ellis found their leader in sophomore Trenton Schartz, who rushed for 123 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 150 yards and a pair of TDs. Those 123 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Schartz.
Trego's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Ellis, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.
Friday's matchup might be decided in the trenches. Trego has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 212 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Ellis, though, as they've been averaging only 89 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Trego didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Ellis in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, but they still walked away with a 52-47 win.
