Basketball Recap: Albany Takes a Loss

After a string of four wins, Albany's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They were dealt an 80-50 loss at the hands of the St. Mary's Gaels. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 36th, while the Gaels are ranked third).

When it comes to explaining why Albany lost, don't look at Azera Gates. Despite the final result, she went 6 of 11 en route to 20 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Jasani Francis Torras was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Albany smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 16 consecutive matchups.
