Baseball Game Preview: Nutley Maroon Raiders vs. St. Benedict's Prep Gray Bees

The Nutley Maroon Raiders will head out to take on the St. Benedict's Prep Gray Bees at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Nutley played in-conference for the first time on Wednesday and got just the result they were looking for. They put the hurt on Caldwell with a sharp 11-1 win. The Maroon Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by ten runs or more this season.

Nutley got a great performance from Sean Fealey as he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Those six strikeouts gave Fealey a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Jackson Poole was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominic Saladino, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI.

Nutley hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Caldwell struck out six times.

Meanwhile, St. Benedict's Prep had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Barringer a 15-0 shutout on Wednesday. That looming 15-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Gray Bees yet this season.

The victory got Nutley back to even at 6-6. As for St. Benedict's Prep, their record is now 3-8.

Everything went Nutley's way against St. Benedict's Prep in their previous matchup on April 8th, as Nutley made off with a 15-0 win. Will the Maroon Raiders repeat their success, or do the Gray Bees have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
