Baseball Recap: Wellington Eagles vs. Bennett Tigers
Wellington extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 6-15 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Bennett Tigers. If the Eagles were looking for revenge after losing 6-5 to the Tigers when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Tanner McLean made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
As for Bennett, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-9. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch.
On Bennett's side, Brody Hawes was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. Hawes also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Bennett is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 8-9 otherwise. Hawes was also big at the plate, earning one RBI, one run, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
Hawes wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Rafael Ibarra, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave Ibarra a new career-high. Peyton Mott was another, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Wellington didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 6-4 win against Berthoud on the 10th. As for Bennett, they have also already played their next contest, a 21-0 victory against Mitchell on the 10th.
