The Petoskey Northmen made easy work of the Bay City Western Warriors on Saturday and carried off a 13-6 victory. Considering the Northmen have won 12 matchups by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Bre VerCautren made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Petoskey got a massive performance out of Alexis Cadarette, who went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Cora Howard was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Petoskey lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted in their last 17 games.
Petoskey's win bumped their record up to 26-5. As for Bay City Western, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-13.
Petoskey and Bay City Western could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings. The Northmen (ranked 38th) will meet Gaylord (ranked third) at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Bay City Western will square off against Lakeville at 4:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (226 vs. 93).
