Basketball Recap: Oakland Mills Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Oakland Mills can bid farewell to their nine-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. They managed a 57-53 victory over Marriotts Ridge. The win was all the more spectacular given the Scorpions' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 280th, while Marriotts Ridge are ranked 100th).

Despite the loss, Marriotts Ridge still got an impressive performance from Blake Willingham, who shot 5-for-9 from downtown and almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine assists. Willingham continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Restia Whitaker was another key player, putting up 14 points and six assists.

Oakland Mills' victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-8 and their overall record up to 2-10. As for Marriotts Ridge, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.

Oakland Mills has already played their next matchup (against Guilford Park), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Marriotts Ridge is taking a road trip to square off against Poly at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
