Baseball Recap: South Hunterdon Drops Season-High Score on Rahway

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Hunterdon). They put the hurt on the Rahway Indians with a sharp 18-2 win on Thursday. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.

Nate Lawton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. South Hunterdon is undefeated when Lawton allows three or fewer hits, but 7-9 otherwise. Lawton was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI.

In other batting news, Aaron Parisi was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs and two stolen bases. He is becoming a predictor of South Hunterdon's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 7-2 (and 6-7 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Landon Katz, who went 1-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run.

South Hunterdon hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rahway struck out nine times.

South Hunterdon is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Rahway, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-17.

As of now, neither South Hunterdon nor the Indians have any future games scheduled.
