Preview: Clinton Maroons vs. Warrensburg-Latham Cardinals
Clinton has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Warrensburg-Latham Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Last Thursday, Clinton lost to Tuscola at home by a decisive 51-35 margin. While losing is never fun, Clinton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 248th, while Tuscola is ranked 104th).
Meanwhile, Warrensburg-Latham's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fourth straight loss. They were beaten by PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central 56-18. Warrensburg-Latham was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-12.
Clinton's loss dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Warrensburg-Latham, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season.
Clinton couldn't quite finish off Warrensburg-Latham in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 and fell 50-48. Can Clinton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
