Basketball Game Preview: Christ Covenant Spartans vs. John Paul II Catholic Saints

The Christ Covenant Spartans will head out on the road to take on the John Paul II Catholic Saints at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Christ Covenant fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Trinity Christian two weeks ago but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 43-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. The Spartans' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, John Paul II Catholic entered their game against Cape Fear Academy on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. John Paul II Catholic fell to Cape Fear Academy 49-44.

Christ Covenant's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 10-5. As for John Paul II Catholic, their loss ended a 16-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 17-2.

Christ Covenant was dealt a bruising 57-29 defeat at the hands of John Paul II Catholic in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Thankfully for Christ Covenant, Ramsey Cureton (who went 8 for 17 on her way to 19 points along with six boards and six steals) won't be suiting up this time.
