Baseball Recap: Point Arena Drops Season-High Score on Laytonville

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Point Arena). They put the hurt on the Laytonville Warriors with a sharp 21-4 victory on Friday. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Aidan O'Neil made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. O'Neil was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, Cody Chavez was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Jose Bernal was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Point Arena kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 25 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2024.

Point Arena pushed their record up to 8-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Laytonville, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Looking ahead, Point Arena will face off against Grace Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Pirates surely won't give up without a fight. As for Laytonville, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Victory Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on the 13th.
