Basketball Recap: South Mecklenburg Drops Highest Score of Season Against Lake Worth

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Mecklenburg). They put the hurt on the Lake Worth Trojans with a sharp 83-63 win on Friday. The Sabres not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since February 18th (when they won 76-39).

Ben Houpt was his usual excellent self, going 6-for-8 from beyond the arc to rack up 30 points and five rebounds. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in shooting accuracy (75%). Another player making a difference was Jim Gatehouse, who almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine boards.

South Mecklenburg smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive matchups.

With the victory, South Mecklenburg broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-4. As for Lake Worth, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

South Mecklenburg wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 71-41 defeat against New Hanover on the 6th. As for Lake Worth, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-47 loss against Ben L. Smith on the 6th.
