Baseball Game Preview: Martin Luther King Cougars vs. George Washington Eagles

The Martin Luther King Cougars are taking a road trip to face off against the George Washington Eagles at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While Cougars fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Tuesday's season opener. They came out on top against Franklin Learning Center by a score of 15-10 last Tuesday. Winning may never get old, but the Cougars sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row dating back to last season.

Jordan Thompson and Kingsley Snyder made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Thompson struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Snyder pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. At the plate, Thompson scored a run and stole four bases while going 3-for-6, while Snyder got on base in five of his six plate appearances with four RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Thompson is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played dating back to last season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Messiah Stokes, who scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (three). Ishmail Crawford-Mathis was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Meanwhile, George Washington beat Prep Charter 8-3 on Wednesday.
