Softball Game Preview: Calhoun County Saints vs. Wagener-Salley War Eagles

Calhoun County is 0-10 against Wagener-Salley since March of 2021 but things could change on Friday. The Calhoun County Saints will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Wagener-Salley War Eagles at 6:00 p.m.

Calhoun County is coming home looking for redemption after taking a loss in their road opener. They came up short against Wagener-Salley on Tuesday, falling 15-4.

For Wagener-Salley's part, Makenley Walling and Kylee Hooker were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Walling struck out eight batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Hooker tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, Walling didn't allow a single earned run, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024. At bat, Walling went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run, while Hooker got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those four RBI gave Walling a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kaylee Craven was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in runs. The team also got some help courtesy of M Jackson, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Wagener-Salley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .676. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Calhoun County only posted an OBP of .273.
