Basketball Recap: Potsdam Sandstoners vs. Harrisville Pirates

The Potsdam Sandstoners won the last time they faced the Harrisville Pirates, and things went their way on Saturday too. Potsdam had just enough and edged the Pirates out 56-54. The victory was all the more spectacular given Potsdam's disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 246th, while the Pirates are ranked 94th).

Potsdam found their leader in underclassman Ian VanWagner, who went 8 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 36 points and 2 assists. Another player making a difference was Brodie Delaney, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.

Despite the loss, Harrisville still got an impressive performance from Tanner Sullivan, who scored 27 points. Sullivan is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Joe Shepherd, who scored ten points.

Potsdam is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Harrisville, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-2.

Potsdam will stay at home for another game and welcome the Huskies at 7:15 p.m. on February 8th. Harrisville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
