Basketball Recap: Columbus International Skates Past Mifflin with Ease

Columbus International was handed a heart-breaking three-point defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Mifflin on Tuesday. The Columbus International Lions breezed by the Mifflin Punchers to the tune of 72-16. The Lions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 22 points or more this season.

Columbus International's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Leila Carter led the charge by shooting 5-for-9 from downtown and dropping a double-double on 30 points and 14 boards. That makes it five consecutive games in which Carter has scored at least a third of Columbus International's points. Another player making a difference was Marley Benson, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 steals.

Columbus International smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.

Columbus International's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-4. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.9 points per game. As for Mifflin, they are on a 20-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Columbus International Lions take on the Beechcroft Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mifflin, they will challenge Linden-McKinley at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
