Recap: Nixon Mustangs vs. Rio Grande City Rattlers

The Nixon Mustangs had already won 12 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 34.3 points), and they went ahead and made it 13 on Friday. They blew past Rio Grande City 87-56 at home. Nixon has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Nixon was led to victory by Uli Torres and Jose Escobar. Torres dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Escobar scored 24 points along with three steals. Escobar has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Mason Vela was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with three steals.

Nixon is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 17 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 24-9 record this season. As for Rio Grande City, their loss dropped their record down to 21-14.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Nixon will challenge Martin at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Nixon knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 12 games -- so hopefully Martin likes a good challenge. Rio Grande City's road trip will continue as they head out to face Palmview at 7:30 p.m. on February 13th.
