Basketball Recap: West Union Skates Past East with Ease

You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for West Union on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew the East Tartans out of the water with a 57-18 final score. With the Dragons ahead 32-10 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Leading West Union to victory were Ashlah Staten and Annabelle Mcintosh. Staten almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds, while Mcintosh went 7 of 17 on her way to 14 points along with six assists and three steals. What's more, Staten also racked up four assists, the most she's had since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Madison Stout, who posted eight points and four steals.

West Union smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

West Union is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points per game. As for East, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.

West Union and East could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. West Union (ranked 485th) will meet Fayetteville-Perry (ranked 135th) at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Similarly, East will square off against Green at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday down 566 places (780 vs. 214).
