This Connecticut school pays honor the British soldiers who were omnipresent during colonization and Revolutionary War times.

The Redcoats of Berlin High don't share their mascot name with any other school in the country.

Head on over to Berlin (Conn.) to see America's present, and its British-colonized past.

The school just outside of Hartford is the home of the Redcoats (the only Redcoats in the nation), a reference to the British soldiers who roamed the colonies enforcing British rule before - and during - the Revolutionary War. It's definitely a reference to a formidable force, a band of individuals who worked together as a team for a common goal.

On the other hand, the Redcoats were enemies of the colonists. Some could say that the mascot name honors the opposition from the Revolutionary War.

Still, the mascot name is a great one for many reasons. First, it's obviously one-of-a-kind. Second, it's a regional reference and an historical one. Lastly, it's a color-themed mascot name that still manages to add in some unique flair.

Berlin is the exact center of the state of Connecticut, and the British redcoats obviously spent many years roaming the area. Even though colonization and the war are well in the past, Redcoats are still doing battle in the town of Berlin.
