Football Game Preview: Syracuse Rockets vs. Ashland-Greenwood Bluejays + How To Watch

Two dominant signal callers in Will Janssen and Derek Tonjes are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Syracuse Rockets will take on the Ashland-Greenwood Bluejays on Friday. Syracuse is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Syracuse is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They put the hurt on Gross Catholic with a sharp 43-20 win. The result was nothing new for the Rockets, who have now won six matchups by 23 points or more so far this season.

Mason Lintz produced another solid effort rushing for 155 yards and two TDs while picking up 9.1 yards per carry, and also catching one score. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in receiving yards (29). Brennan Schroeder was another key player, throwing for 80 yards and a pair of touchdowns on perfect 6-for-6 passing.

Syracuse didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Maxwell Parde and Oliver McIntosh. Syracuse got some further help from Hunter Holle: he picked up two sacks and made five total tackles.

Meanwhile, Ashland-Greenwood humbled Chadron with a 47-13 victory. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Bluejays' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Cardinals are ranked 72nd).

Ashland-Greenwood's win came from a few key players Syracuse will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Sam Mundt, who picked up 112 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 71 yards. Logan Fangmeyer also helped out with an impressive 120 receiving yards.

Ashland-Greenwood's victory bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Syracuse, their win bumped their record up to 10-0.

Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Syracuse has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 386.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Ashland-Greenwood struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 202.9 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Syracuse lost to Ashland-Greenwood on the road by a decisive 35-21 margin in their previous matchup back in September of 2015. Can the Rockets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
