Basketball Recap: Shaker Heights Gets Big Victory over Higher-Ranked Bedford

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Shaker Heights ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They managed a 57-51 victory over the Bedford Bearcats. The win was all the more spectacular given the Red Raiders' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 383rd, while the Bearcats are ranked 101st).

Bedford's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Terrell Pollard, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine boards. Pollard is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last 16 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Denayne Dixon, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards.

Shaker Heights' victory bumped their record up to 4-13. As for Bedford, their loss dropped their record down to 12-7.

Shaker Heights will face off against Euclid at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Euclid's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six games. As for Bedford, they will be playing at home against Maple Heights at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Bedford is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.8 points per game this season.
