Basketball Recap: Westside Seminoles vs. Veterans Warhawks

Westside lost against Veterans back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Seminoles took a 69-54 bruising from the Warhawks. While losing is never fun, the Seminoles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 403rd, while the Warhawks are ranked 185th).

Despite the loss, Westside still got an impressive performance from Jalen Whitley, who posted 18 points and three steals. Whitley is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last five games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Justin Fuller, who shot 63% from the field on his way to 11 points.

Veterans was led to victory by Jaivyon Dawson and Tre Embry. Dawson almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds, while Embry earned 14 points and six boards. Those nine boards gave Dawson a new career-high. Cordell Broadnax was another key player, putting up ten points.

Westside's defeat was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Veterans, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-3 record this season.
