Basketball Recap: Winfield Generals vs. Wayne Pioneers
Winfield lost against Wayne back in January of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Winfield Generals lost 59-34 to the Wayne Pioneers. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Generals have suffered since December 28, 2024.

Wayne found their leader in sophomore Jaycelyn Sammons, who went 8-for-11 from beyond the arc on her way to 30 points and three steals. Sammons is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 14 games she's played. Brooke Adkins was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to five assists and five boards.
Winfield has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.8 points over those games. The win was the ninth in a row for Wayne, bringing their record for this year to 17-4.
Winfield wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 53-31 victory against Point Pleasant on the 28th. As for Wayne, they have also already played their next contest, a 70-42 win against Hurricane on the 24th.
