Basketball Recap: Opelika Gets the Win

Opelika won the last time they faced Handley and things went their way on Monday too. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, the Opelika Bulldogs made off with a 50-49 victory over the Handley Tigers. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Tigers are ranked 140th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

The win made it two in a row for Opelika and bumps their season record up to 20-5. As for Handley, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-8.

Opelika and Central will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday without much rest having both just played. Central knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 27 matches -- so hopefully Opelika likes a good challenge. Handley has already played their next game (against Wadley), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
