Softball Game Preview: Roxana Shells vs. Civic Memorial Eagles

The Roxana Shells will head out on the road to face off against the Civic Memorial Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Roxana is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 14 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Staunton on Monday. They fell 4-1 to the Bulldogs.

Madison John was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run.

Meanwhile, Civic Memorial came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Hawks a 10-0 shutout. While the Eagles didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Civic Memorial got a massive performance out of Grace Burton, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Burton has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Megan Griffith, who scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Civic Memorial kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gibault Catholic only managed four hits.

Civic Memorial's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Roxana, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Roxana came out on top in a nail-biter against Civic Memorial in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Roxana since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
