Baseball Recap: Hesperia Christian Extends Winning Streak to Three

Hesperia Christian waltzed into their contest on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by a 12-5 margin over the Academy for Academic Excellence Knights. This was a revenge game for the Patriots: when they faced off against the Knights back in February, they had to take a 5-0 loss.

Luke Beasley and Nathaniel Renner made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Beasley struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Meanwhile, Renner pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Beasley a new career-high. At the plate, Beasley went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Renner scored two runs and stole a base. Renner has become a key player for Hesperia Christian: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, Gabe Sanchez was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Hesperia Christian's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-6 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Cory Villalba, who scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Hesperia Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.4.

Hesperia Christian's record is now 5-6. As for Academy for Academic Excellence, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.

Hesperia Christian wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 5-4 victory against Victor Valley on the 19th. As for Academy for Academic Excellence, they have also already played their next contest, an 11-1 defeat against Vasquez on the 24th.
