Baseball Game Preview: Cheraw Braves vs. Sumter Gamecocks

The Cheraw Braves will take on the Sumter Gamecocks at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Cheraw sitting on 11 straight wins and Sumter on four.

Cheraw proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 11) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Gray Collegiate Academy 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Braves have posted since April 9th.

Cheraw let Kaden Johnson and Tyler Tolson run wild. Johnson went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double, while Tolson went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Brendan Pace was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one double.

Cheraw hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, while Sumter put up some runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Ridge View. The Gamecocks blew past the Blazers 7-0.

Cheraw's win was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 21-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Sumter, their win bumped their record up to 14-11.

Everything went Cheraw's way against Sumter in their previous matchup back in April, as Cheraw made off with a 10-0 victory. Will the Braves repeat their success, or do the Gamecocks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
