Football Game Preview: Foothill Falcons vs. Basic Wolves

Foothill and Basic are an even 4-4 against one another since October of 2015, but not for long. The Falcons will venture away from home to challenge the Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Foothill has given up an average of 28.7 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Foothill is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Liberty, who was ranked third at the time (Foothill was ranked 18th). The Falcons came up short against the Patriots on Friday, falling 50-30.

Foothill might have lost, but man, Ryder Dobbs was a machine: he threw for 233 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 65 yards and one score. The Falcons are 2-1 when Dobbs posts three or more passing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. A healthy portion of Dobbs' aerial production (100 yards to be exact) went to Braxton Bonnett, who also brought in two receiving touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Basic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. The matchup between the Wolves and Coronado didn't end well, with the Wolves falling 49-34.

Foothill will need to focus on slowing down Jayveon Rose, one of several Basic players who made an impact when they last played. He threw for 207 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also punched in two rushing scores. Basic's leading receiver Parker Simmons was Rose's top target yet again, picking up 90 receiving yards and one TD.

Basic's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Foothill, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.

Friday's game will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Dobbs and Rose. Dobbs just won't slow down this season and has thrown 13 touchdowns while averaging 159.5 passing yards per game. Rose has been a dominant force too and has thrown 12 touchdowns while averaging 210.8 passing yards per game.

Foothill came up short against Basic in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, falling 39-29. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
