Football Recap: Jaydan Martinez Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Northridge + How To Watch

Niwot hadn't done well against Northridge recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Cougars snuck past the Grizzlies with a 31-26 victory. This was payback for the Cougars, who suffered a 58-14 loss the last time these two teams met.

Niwot's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jaydan Martinez, who picked up 77 receiving yards and two scores. Martinez has become a key player for the Cougars: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two receiving touchdowns, but 1-5 otherwise. Eli Quesada was another key receiver, gaining 127 total yards and a touchdown.

Niwot didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Northridge to a completion percentage of just 37.5%. The Cougars weren't nearly as limited: they posted one of 62.5%.

When it comes to explaining why Northridge lost, don't look at Yael Padilla. Despite the final result, he rushed for 194 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 8.4 yards per carry. Padilla showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 64 yards. Another player making a difference was Alexander Irizarry, who picked up 88 receiving yards and one touchdown.

The win made it two in a row for Niwot and bumps their season record up to 4-5. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.0 points over those games. As for Northridge, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.
