After a string of six wins, Hoover's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They were outmatched by the Mater Dei Monarchs and fell 99-35. The game marked the Cardinals' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Luke Barnett was his usual excellent self, putting up 55 points and five steals for Mater Dei. The dominant performance gave Barnett a new career-high in steals. Blake Davidson was another key player, dropping a triple-double on ten points, ten boards, and 12 assists.

Hoover's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Mater Dei, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-3.

Hoover will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Patrick Henry at 7:30 p.m. on January 10, 2025. As for Mater Dei, they will take on Folsom in a tournament on Monday. One thing working in Folsom's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight contests.
