Baseball Recap: Gulfport Sets Scoring Season-High Against Baker

Gulfport scored the most runs they've had this season on Saturday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 14-9 to the Baker Hornets. The defeat continues a trend for the Admirals in their matchups with the Hornets: they've now lost five in a row.

Gulfport got a good showing from Thomas Stennis, who pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Stennis also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Gulfport is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-2 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Gulfport got a big performance out of Anderson Hage, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. James Van Slyke was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Even though they lost, Gulfport kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.

Gulfport's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Baker, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-3.

Coming up, Gulfport will be playing in front of their home fans against West Harrison at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gulfport will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last. As for Baker, they will head out to take on Elberta at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Elberta will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Baker surely won't give up without a fight.
