Preview: Frankenmuth Eagles vs. Millington Cardinals
The Frankenmuth Eagles will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Millington Cardinals at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Frankenmuth scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They came out on top against Linden by a score of 73-64. Given Frankenmuth's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while Linden is ranked 471st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Frankenmuth can attribute much of their success to Aiden Labissoniere, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals, and Riley Hubbard, who scored 18 points. That's the first time this season that Hubbard scored 15 or more points. Thomas Conzelmann was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Meanwhile, Millington entered their tilt with Hemlock with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. It was close, but Millington ultimately received the gift of a 55-53 win from a begrudging Cardinalssquad. Despite the win, that was the fewest points they have scored all year.
Frankenmuth pushed their record up to 4-3 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.7 points per game. As for Millington, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.
Frankenmuth and Millington were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in February of 2019, but Frankenmuth came up empty-handed after a 54-53 defeat. Can Frankenmuth avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
