Softball Game Preview: Central City Value Jaguars vs. Annenberg Panthers

The Central City Value Jaguars will square off against the Annenberg Panthers at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Central City Value has three straight wins, Annenberg has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Thursday, Central City Value made easy work of Downtown Magnets and carried off a 31-2 victory. Considering the Jaguars have won six contests by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Mercedes Ponce made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four stolen bases and four runs. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Emily Fernandez was a standout: she got on base in four of her six plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Gallardo, who went 3-for-4 with six RBI, two stolen bases, and three runs.

Central City Value kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Annenberg fell victim to Animo Bunche and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 12-0 to the Stallions.

Annenberg's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Central City Value, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.

Everything went Central City Value's way against Annenberg when the teams last played last Thursday, as Central City Value made off with an 18-3 victory. Will the Jaguars repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
