Baseball Recap: Greencastle-Antrim Starts Season with Win at Home

Greencastle-Antrim gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They blew past the Gettysburg Warriors 14-1. For the Blue Devils, this counts as revenge for the 3-0 victory the Warriors walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2021.

Carter McCauley and Avery Horst made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, McCauley pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Horst tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. At the plate, McCauley went 1-for-3 with two RBI, while Horst scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those two RBI gave McCauley a new career-high.

In other batting news, Nolan Sullivan was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Elvin Robles, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Greencastle-Antrim will look to defend their home field on March 19th against Delone Catholic at 3:40 p.m. As for Gettysburg, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 13-0 win against Harrisburg on the 14th.
