Softball Game Preview: Cambria Heights Highlanders vs. West Branch Warriors

The Cambria Heights Highlanders will head out to face off against the West Branch Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

As a matter of fact, Cambria Heights put up the most points they have all season on Friday. Everything went their way against Moshannon Valley as Cambria Heights made off with a 17-8 win. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Meanwhile, West Branch had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Mustangs a 17-0 shutout. With that win, the Warriors brought their scoring average up to 7.8 runs per game.

Makena Moore made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, West Branch got a massive performance out of Lindsey Bainey, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Bainey also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Isabella Koleno was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

West Branch was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .609. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive games.

West Branch's record is now 4-1. As for Cambria Heights, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
