Preview: Cristo Rey Jesuit Lions vs. Bob Hope Eagles

The Cristo Rey Jesuit Lions will be playing at home against the Bob Hope Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Cristo Rey Jesuit will be strutting in after a win while Bob Hope will be coming in after a loss.

Cristo Rey Jesuit was handed a 28-point defeat in their previous outing, but they didn't let that bad energy affect their game against Pro-Vision Academy on Friday. Cristo Rey Jesuit came out on top in a nail-biter against Pro-Vision Academy and snuck past 39-36. The victory was just what Cristo Rey Jesuit needed coming off of a 50-22 defeat in their prior contest.

Zakiya Umstead was her usual excellent self, scoring 23 points. Another player making a difference was Carmen Neria, who scored seven points.

Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Bob Hope, who are still winless after their ninth game. They fell 36-26 to Sabine Pass back in December of 2023.

Bob Hope's loss came about despite a quality game from Ashley Magana, who scored 18 points along with three steals and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Magana scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joselynn Estrada, who scored four points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Cristo Rey Jesuit pushed their record up to 3-4 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. As for Bob Hope, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-9.

Friday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Cristo Rey Jesuit have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 11.7 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Bob Hope, though, as they've been averaging only 13.1 rebounds per game. Given Cristo Rey Jesuit's sizeable advantage in that area, Bob Hope will need to find a way to close that gap. Come back here after the game to get analysis of the match and other basketball content.
