Troy dropped their record down to 12-3 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Athens Red Hawks, falling 8-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Colts have suffered since May 25, 2024.

As for Athens, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-5. The result was nothing new for the Red Hawks, who have now won three contests by six runs or more so far this season.

For Athens' part, Nick Rossi and Sam Link were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Rossi tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Link pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Rossi also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Athens is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-4 otherwise. At the plate, Rossi went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Link went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Mathew Schriber was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Troy will take on Bloomfield Hills at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The last four games the Black Hawks have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Athens, they will square off against Clarkston at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Wolves will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Red Hawks surely won't give up without a fight.
