Softball Game Preview: Old Lyme Wildcats vs. Thomaston Bears

The Old Lyme Wildcats will face off against the Thomaston Bears on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Old Lyme is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They blew past Putnam 16-4. Considering the Wildcats have won 12 games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Thomaston, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over Oxford on Monday.

Madison Decker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 17 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Miranda Embelton, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Thomaston pushed their record up to 15-8-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Old Lyme, their victory bumped their record up to 15-8.
