Basketball Game Preview: Dwight Trojans vs. Midland Timberwolves

The Dwight Trojans are taking a road trip to face off against the Midland Timberwolves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Dwight has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Midland will arrive with four straight victories.

Dwight is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Fieldcrest on Monday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Trojans might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting the Knights an easy 75-55 win. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 549th, while the Knights are ranked 102nd).

Despite their loss, Dwight saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Evan Cox, who posted nine points, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Joey Starks, who earned 11 points and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Midland ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They managed a 65-61 victory over Stark County. The Timberwolves' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Dwight's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Midland, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.

Dwight strolled past Midland in their previous meeting back in January by a score of 52-37. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Timberwolves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
