Softball Recap: Rensselaer Central Bombers vs. Kankakee Valley Kougars

Rensselaer Central dropped their record down to 7-5 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They lost 12-4 to the Kankakee Valley Kougars. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bombers of the 4-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Kylie Spencer made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Stacia Crabtree, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two RBI.

As for Kankakee Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 8-6. Considering they have won five contests by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

On Kankakee Valley's side, Jessica Beauchamp made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Beauchamp has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Patience Cole was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Madalynn Hemphill was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rensselaer Central will take on Benton Central at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Kankakee Valley, they will face off against Andrean at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
