Softball Game Preview: Oxford Hills Vikings vs. Camden Hills Windjammers

Oxford Hills is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Camden Hills is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Vikings will welcome the Windjammers at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Oxford Hills 1.7, Camden Hills 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Oxford Hills and Skowhegan meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Vikings' pitchers stepped up to hand the River Hawks a 3-0 shutout.

Meanwhile, Camden Hills made easy work of Mt. Ararat on Wednesday and carried off a 9-3 win. The Windjammers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.

Thea Laukka and Charlotte McGreevy made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Laukka didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, McGreevy tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Laukka went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while McGreevy went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave Laukka a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Audrey Strong, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Oxford Hills has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Camden Hills, their win bumped their record up to 10-4.

Oxford Hills beat Camden Hills 3-0 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Windjammers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
