Baseball Game Preview: Edgewood Mustangs vs. Shakamak Lakers

The Edgewood Mustangs will take on the Shakamak Lakers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Edgewood's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while Shakamak has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.

Edgewood's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past Cloverdale 11-0.

Jackson Huber tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Gunnar Perry was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron Murphy, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Edgewood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Shakamak was able to grind out a solid win over Bloomfield on Wednesday, taking the game 5-2. The victory continues a trend for the Lakers in their matchups with the Cardinals: they've now won six in a row.

Edgewood's win bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Shakamak, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 8-6.

Edgewood took their win against Shakamak when the teams last played back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 8-2 score. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Lakers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
