After losing to Union Catholic the last time they met, Elizabeth decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Minutemen blew past the Vikings 9-2 on Saturday. The Minutemen might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.
Albert Maldonado made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over 6.2 innings pitched. Maldonado was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one triple. That triple was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Ian Acevedo was incredible, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Eliezer Cepeda, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Elizabeth has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. As for Union Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Elizabeth will head out to face off against Woodbridge at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Minutemen 2.9, the Barrons 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Union Catholic, they will head out on the road to take on Scotch Plains-Fanwood at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
