Baseball Recap: Era's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Era's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Chico Dragons with a sharp 8-1 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Hornets as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Hayes Fugate spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 15 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Walker Boyet, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Cole Stevens also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Era's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 5-9-3. As for Chico, they dropped their record down to 1-18-2 with the loss, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.

Era will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Dragons: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
