Softball Recap: Union Area Beats Dubois Central Catholic for Their Fifth Straight Victory

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Union Area had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They never let the DuBois Central Catholic Cardinals get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory. Considering the Scotties have won 18 contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Not much got past Mia Preuhs, who gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep DuBois Central Catholic off the board. Preuhs has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 17 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Olivia Benedict, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Irelyn Fisher was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run and one double.

The win (which was Union Area's fifth in a row) raised their record to 21-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for DuBois Central Catholic, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-11.

Coming up, Union Area will square off against Cambridge Springs on Monday. The Devils' pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so the Scotties' hitters will have their work cut out for them. DuBois Central Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
